Botox — what you need to know

Botox is a safe, clinically proven treatment used to temporarily relax specific facial muscles, helping reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is one of the most popular non-surgical aesthetic treatments worldwide. It contains a purified protein that blocks nerve signals to targeted muscles, allowing the skin to appear smoother and more refreshed.

Commonly used to improve:

  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines (between the eyebrows)
  • Crow's feet (around the eyes)
  • Bunny lines (on the nose)
  • Chin dimpling and neck bands

It can also be used for medical purposes such as excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), teeth grinding and migraines.

During treatment

Quick — typically 10–20 minutes. Small injections are administered into targeted muscles using very fine needles. Most patients describe discomfort as minimal.

Results & duration

Results begin within 3–7 days, with full effect at around 2 weeks. Effects typically last 3–4 months; regular treatments help maintain results.

Safety

Very safe when administered by a qualified medical professional. Side effects are generally mild and temporary — slight redness, swelling, mild bruising or temporary headache. Serious complications are rare.

Which practitioner should I see?

We advise patients considering Botox to book a no-charge consultation with Nurse Beulah or Nurse Amanda. Dr Burnham, Dr de Wolf, Mr Bond and Ms Bowers also perform Botox injections for their patients.

Dermal Fillers

Restore volume and enhance contours

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments designed to restore volume, enhance facial contours and smooth deeper lines and folds. Most commonly made from hyaluronic acid (a substance naturally found in the body), fillers provide natural-looking, immediate results.

Commonly used to improve:

  • Lips (enhancement and definition)
  • Cheeks (volume and lift)
  • Nasolabial folds (nose to mouth)
  • Marionette lines (mouth to chin)
  • Jawline definition and chin projection
  • Tear troughs (under-eye hollows)

Treatment typically takes 30–45 minutes; a topical anaesthetic is often used for comfort. Results are visible immediately, with mild swelling possible for a few days, lasting 6–18 months depending on area and product.

We advise patients considering dermal filler to book a no-charge consultation with Nurse Beulah. Dr Burnham, Dr de Wolf, Mr Bond and Ms Bowers also perform dermal fillers.

Sculptra®

Stimulate your own collagen

Sculptra® is an advanced injectable treatment designed to stimulate your body's own collagen production. Rather than providing instant volume, it gradually restores facial structure and improves skin quality over time. It contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which works deep within the skin to rebuild lost volume and improve firmness and texture in a subtle, natural way.

Ideal for:

  • General facial volume loss
  • Hollow or sunken cheeks
  • Temples
  • Jawline definition
  • Skin laxity and thinning skin

Treatment usually takes 30–45 minutes; a series of 2–3 sessions spaced several weeks apart is recommended. Results develop gradually over weeks to months and can last up to 2 years or more.

We advise patients considering Sculptra to book a no-charge consultation with Nurse Amanda.

Polynucleotides

Support skin quality and hydration

Polynucleotide treatments are injectable skin treatments used to support skin quality by hydrating and improving the appearance of skin texture. They are highly purified DNA-derived molecules which, when injected, are understood to support tissue repair processes and improve hydration, elasticity and overall skin quality.

May be used to address:

  • Fine lines and skin texture
  • Dull or dehydrated skin
  • Delicate areas such as under the eyes
  • Skin laxity
  • Skin quality improvement rather than volume

Treatment typically takes around 30 minutes; a course is usually recommended, spaced a few weeks apart. Results develop gradually and vary between individuals — no outcome can be guaranteed.

Which practitioner should I see?

Dr Burnham, Dr de Wolf and Ms Bowers perform polynucleotide injections. A consultation is required to assess your medical history and suitability; no treatment is carried out unless clinically suitable.

Microdermabrasion

Non-invasive exfoliation for brighter skin

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive skin treatment that exfoliates the outer layer of the skin to improve its appearance and texture. It uses a controlled exfoliation technique to remove dead skin cells, supporting skin renewal and improving smoothness and clarity.

May be used to improve:

  • Dull or uneven skin tone
  • Mild skin texture irregularities
  • Superficial fine lines
  • Congested or rough skin

Treatment typically takes around 40 minutes and does not usually require anaesthetic. Skin may appear smoother and brighter afterwards; a course may be recommended. Results vary and cannot be guaranteed.

Which practitioner should I see?

We advise patients considering microdermabrasion to book with Nurse Amanda (no consultation needed).

Chemical Peels

Refresh tone and texture

Chemical peels use carefully formulated solutions to exfoliate the outer layers of the skin, improving the appearance of skin texture and tone. The application causes controlled exfoliation, supporting the removal of dead skin cells and encouraging renewal. Different types and strengths are available depending on your skin type and concerns.

May be used to improve:

  • Uneven skin tone
  • Dull or tired-looking skin
  • Mild pigmentation
  • Superficial fine lines
  • Blemish-prone or congested skin

Treatment typically takes around 60 minutes; you may feel a tingling or warm sensation. The depth of peel determines the level of exfoliation and any downtime. Results vary and cannot be guaranteed.

We advise patients considering a chemical peel to book with Nurse Amanda.
